At the Xbox 360 Media Briefing at E3 this morning, amidst a barrage of new trailers for never-before-seen platform exclusives, Valve debuted Left 4 Dead 2, the sequel to last year’s hit zombie cooperative shooter.

The timeline in Left 4 Dead 2 runs parallel to the original. Set in the deep south, the sequel takes four new Survivors from Savannah, Georgia to the bayous of Lousiana, to New Orleans’ French Quarter. They’ll face off against new boss enemies (one of which can be seen below) and, for the first time, wield melee weapons like chainsaws, baseball bats, and frying pans. The AI director has been beefed up, designed to be even more punishing to the Survivors. He’ll now be able to “procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players’ performance.”

Valve promises that Left 4 Dead 2 will offer more Cooperative, Versus, and Survival maps than the original, right out of the box.

The cinematic trailer can be found below, plus a handful of screengrabs and box and poster art.

The game debuts on the PC and Xbox 360 on November 17. We’re scheduled to see the game tomorrow, so be sure to check back in the evening for our preview.
