For Left 4 Dead fans, it’s felt like an eternity: Valve has finally revealed the first DLC for its coop zombie shooter. The Left 4 Dead: Survival Pack, due for release this spring on Steam and Xbox Live Marketplace, includes a new gameplay mode called ‘Survival’ which has players holding off wave after wave of the undead. High scores are based on survival time and number of zombies dispatched and will be stored on an online leaderboard.

Valve will also be opening up the maps found in the Death Toll and Dead Air campaigns to Versus multiplayer.

A Critic’s Choice Edition of the game will be released around the same time for PC and Xbox 360 and will include all the content offered in the downloadable Survival Pack.

Finally, a Left 4 Dead SDK will be released for free this spring, allowing PC modders and mapmakers to create their own gameplay types, modes, and levels.
