Didn’t manage to catch the Spike 2008 Video Game Awards show on TV or the internets? Thankfully, we were on-hand with our trusty ‘Prt Scr’ button to capture the whole event for you! Be sure to read our complete coverage of the show, too, replete with the requisite announcements and winners.

(Please note: These images were captured from the live video webstream, so they aren’t of the highest quality. Also, they might be slightly out of order. Apologies.)

The Spike 2008 Video Game Awards in Pictures Gallery

When the show kicked off with Jack Black making sweet love to an Xbox 360, we knew we were in for a spectacular evening

Peter Moore showed up to present the first footage of Fight Night Round 4…

…and brought along boxing legend and public speaking coach Mike Tyson!

Who is the mystery man presenting the award for best indie game?

Why, Dr. Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris, shown here dispatching an unruly fan

Someone forgot to tell NPH who the winner was, so he looked around sheepishly for a cue. It was adorable

World of Goo creator and award winner Ron Carmel, holding fellow developer Kyle Gabler’s decapitated head

The VIP area of the audience, during commercial break

Eliza Dushku appears, presenting the award for ‘Big Name in a Game’

The winner is Kiefer Sutherland, for his role in Call of Duty: World at War. She seems excited to see him

Kiefer seems genuinely appreciative for the award and shows admiration for the gaming industry. He then tackles a Christmas tree

The All American Rejects perform what I believe is something vaguely related to music while looking incredibly moody

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk is here to present Gaming legend Will Wright with some kind of lifetime achievement award

Will Wright takes a look at the trophy and quips “I can only assume Tim Schafer designed this.” It’s the cleverest thing said all night

Love his games or hate them, you can’t deny that Wright is a total rock star and an impressive and engaging speaker

The trailer for Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV DLC, The Lost and Damned, debuts

The empty stage between segments

Jack Black is wearing something outrageous, doing outrageous things

Jerry Stiller appears on-stage…

..and joins in on the fun!

Stars of the upcoming Street Fighter movie (yeah, I didn’t know about it either) Kristin Kreuk and Keanu Reeve’s Love Child are here to present the award for Best RPG

Fallout 3 wins! Accepting the award is Bethesda’s Istvan Pely, Todd Howard, and Emil Pagliarulo (L to R). Todd thanks his mom. Emil thanks his kids and tells them to stop playing Left 4 Dead and go to sleep. This, too, is adorable

Busta Rhymes appears on stage to plug his new album and unveil the trailer for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. He does this while wearing a towel. On national television.

Busta wants us to know that the trailer was “created entirely by engine.” Internal combustion, to be precise

A still from the Uncharted 2: Among Thieves trailer

Throughout the night, women perched atop swings suspended from the ceiling descended upon the stage to hand-off the award trophies. Here’s one, just noticing she’s got something on her

Stacey Keibler and Odette Yustman (who was actually in Fallout 3) presenting the trailer for the Terminator: Salvation game, arriving next year from GRIN

Fiddy performs. Some footage of his new game is shown on-screen in the background. The entire audience uses this time to squeeze in a bathroom break

A cap from the Watchmen: The End is Nigh trailer. It looks like an interesting mix of action-oriented and brawling gameplay

Weezer’s Patrick Wilson and Scott Shriner appear to award Best Music Game. Fun and ultimately superfluous fact: Shriner served as Marine!

Rock Band 2 wins (of course) and Harmonix CEO and co-founder Alex Rigopulos accepts

An overweight mall cop appears as Kevin James to present the award for Best Game Developer. I’m glad they’re taking this seriously

Media Molecule wins and LBP technical director Alex Evans and executive producer Siobhan Reddy accept graciously

Jack Black appears back on stage with a flamethrower. CliffyB, fearing his hair might ignite, flees the building

WHAT COULD IT BE THAT HE’S SO EXCITED ABOUT?!

Why, it’s the world premiere footage of Brutal Legend! Tim Schafer is wheeled out onto stage in a chariot by barely-clothed models. You may be surprised to know, this is how he gets around all the time

Tim appears genuinely concerned for his own safety

Judas Priest singer Rob Halford is appearing in the game and joins the fray on stage

Tim seems content to just roll the trailer

And here’s a pathetically small hint of it!

Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for, Megan Fox is here to deliver Game of the Year!

She sure likes videogames!

I’m sorry, what were we…

Oh right, Game of the Year. It’s Grand Theft Auto IV. Here are two people from Rockstar whose names I couldn’t copy down fast enough. Sorry!

Jack Black’s back one last time to say goodnight and thanks for watching

And to segway into a final musical performance from Weezer!

Brian Bell plunks away on the keyboard…

…just before the song picks up and Rivers Cuomo appears. The track is ‘The Greatest Man That Ever Lived’

He’s walking like a zombie for some reason

One parting shot

Fin!

I missed out on the show because I had to work, but seeing the recap in pictures was better than going through the thing having to fastforward through my dvr to catch pieces that looked interesting. Thank you for posting this.
