Grand Theft Auto IV Sales Top 8.5m; Take-Two Sees $500m in Revenue

At today’s investor conference call, Take-Two revealed that Grand Theft Auto IV has sold through 8.5 million units to date (11 million shipped to retail). The title brought in about $500 million in revenue since it’s release in late April, which amounted to profits totaling $98.2 million in the past three months.

By comparison, Take-Two posted a $51.2 million loss in Q2 2007.

The spare cash was certainly needed, as Take-Two revealed that it spent about $5.3 million in “professional and legal expenses” the last quarter, most of which were “related to Electronic Arts’ unsolicited tender offer.”

The final bit of Grand Theft Auto IV news: That Xbox 360-exclusive downloadable content? Delayed until Q1 2009 (between calendar November 1, 2008 and January 31, 2009).

According to Take-Two, the delay was necessary so as to “provide a better balance in Take-Two’s release schedule.”
