SEGA Partners With Japan’s Platinum Games To Release Four New Titles

By Alex Petraglia on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 1:45 PM EST

SEGA of America and SEGA of Europe announced today a partnership with Japanese gaming studio Platinum Games Inc. to act as publisher to four new titles. We shared some details on the first two games with you earlier today: MadWorld is a violent Wii-exclusive and Bayonetta is a violent cross-platform title.

The third game, Infinite Line (working title), is an epic sci-fi RPG built exclusively for the Nintendo DS.

The final title is still currently under-wraps, but is being developed by Shinji Mikami, a creative director at Platinum who served as director on Resident Evil 4 and God Hand and producer on the original Devil May Cry and Killer7.

Pictured is Tatsuya Minami, President and CEO of Platinum Games. Mr. Minami joined Capcom in 1987 as a producer and production studio chief. He founded ODD Inc. in early 2006, which merged with Seeds Inc. in October 2007, to form Platinum Games. Platinum has many teams working simultaneously on different projects, lead by visionary Japanese developers from Capcom and Clover, including Atsushi Inaba, Hideki Kamiya, Shigenori Nishikawa, and Yusuke Hashimoto.

“The creative forces at PlatinumGames bring a new level of imagination into the SEGA family at a pivotal time in the video game industry when the demand for quality, originality and fun has never been greater,” said Minami. “These new titles will contribute meaningfully to SEGA’s brand, while adding a new level of depth to the strategic portfolio of games in our library.”

“We are thrilled to have forged this new relationship with such a talented team of individuals and we are understandably excited about the titles that they are producing for us,” declared Mike Hayes, President and COO of SEGA Europe. “SEGA continually strives to release games for all consumers that are of the highest quality, working with Platinum Games further enhances that strategy.”
