Devil May Cry Creator Hideki Kamiya Presents Bayonetta; First Media

Bayonetta, a stylish and highly cinematic action game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, is being developed by Hideki Kamiya at Platinum Games. Kamiya’s past credits include Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, and Clover titles Viewtiful Joe and Okami.
The game’s titular (ha) protagonist is a witch who faces off against angelic enemies of “epic proportions.” The action seems fast-paced and dynamic, not unlike the latest Devil May Cry, with over-the-top and particularly gruesome finishing moves. Expect the sword, gun, and melee combat to be unflinching.
Platinum describes Bayonetta as a game that “pushes the limits of the action genre, bringing to life its fast-paced, dynamic climax combat that takes place in stages that are a veritable theme park of exciting attractions.”
Kamiya issued this ambigious yet highly amusing statement:
“Hello everyone. It’s been a long time. Hideki Kamiya here.
Actually, come to think of it, it’s been two years since Okami, hasn’t it? I’m sure that during these past two years some of you may have thought that we’d gotten ourselves into some sort of jam, and now I’m incredibly pleased to finally answer those fears with a resounding, ‘We’ve been making a game!’ ”
“We haven’t had anything to say for a while, but my creed towards making games hasn’t changed in the least: ‘Everything is for those who love games-’
With this thought in mind, I look forward to everyone’s support during the long struggle ahead. Now, I suppose I should tell you about what I’ve been working on, right!? Well… I really wanted to, but things got a bit too long, so I’ll have to leave you with this greeting for now.”
Bayonetta is being published by SEGA and should be released next year.
