Ubisoft Opens Kiev Studio

French game developer/publisher Ubisoft has opened its newest studio in Ukraine’s capital city. This marks Ubisoft’s third studio to open in Eastern Europe (the other two being in Bucharest, Romania and Sofia, Bulgaria) and its fifth to be founded within the last year.
Initially, Ubisoft Kiev with collaborate with the Bucharest team, primarily on the PC iteration of the upcoming combat flight sim Tom Clancy’s HAWX.
“We have had a very positive experience in Eastern Europe, as the quality of the upcoming Tom Clancy’s HAWX developed by our Bucharest studio can attest,” said Christine Burgess-Quémard, executive director, worldwide studios at Ubisoft. “Having seen the potential demonstrated by the Sofia studio’s first projects, it was only natural for us to pursue our expansion in this region and attract a new pool of highly-skilled talents to the group.”
Ubi anticipates over 50 people will join the Kiev team in the next 12 months and that a total of 800 developers will be employed by the three Eastern European studios by the end of 2009.
