Robots All Set to Storm the Wii

Just the other day I was saying to myself that there just isn’t enough robot action happening on the Wii. Little did I know that Data Design Interactive would answer my silent plea. I really wish they hadn’t.
The company has secured the rights to bring Battle Rage: The Robot Wars to the Wii, a yet to be published PC third-person shooter originally developed by Destan Entertainment and produced by Teyon Games. Of course the robots are of the gigantic variety, a trait that never gets old if you’re into that kind of thing, and the battles take place in small, self contained arenas, allowing for quick, unadulterated skirmishes that are sure to get the adrenaline pumping. Players can go at it all alone or, preferably, with a partner, both of which can modify their robot to fit their playstyle.
There’s a whole host of other features included, like the ability to fight with three weapons at once (two ranged and one melee) and an arcade mode which gives each robot a separate storyline. If executed properly, and that’s saying a lot from a company that brought you Ninjabread Man, Battle Rage: The Robot Wars might turn into a decent popcorn title, which is fitting as Data Design Interactive is releasing the game through their Popcorn Arcade label. I suppose it was meant to be.

This just looks like a stripped down, dumbed down ripoff of Mechwarrior to me.
The game “looks” okay, for what it is and who is developing it, but, yeah, a Mechwarrior knock off is about what it is. Or Gundam. Or whatever other giant robot games have hit the market in the last two decades.
