Orange Box Titles Unboxed, Heading to Retail in April

Valve will be releasing the individual components of The Orange Box, including Team Fortress 2, the Half-Life 2 ‘Episode Pack’ (including both Episodes 1 and 2 and Half-Life 2 Deathmatch), and Portal, at retail, starting April 9 in North America. The worldwide release is set for two days after that.
TF2 and the Episode Pack carry an MSRP of $29.99 USD, while Portal is $19.99.
This promotion refers to the PC versions of these games. It has not yet be announced if the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 iterations will follow.
“Given the unique nature and length of the games inside The Orange Box, the compilation approach was the right vehicle for the debut of these titles at retail,” said Doug Lombardi, vice president of marketing at Valve. “With the flexibility of having different pricing and packaging options via Steam, we were able to test the market viability of the individual products. The results show an overwhelming demand for these stand-alone offerings as well as The Orange Box. This gives us tremendous confidence as we bring gamers more ways to get these titles at retail.”
While we certainly admire Doug’s enthusiasm, we just can’t seem to wrap our minds around why anyone would want to purchase these three amazing games separately at retail when they can be had (along with several others) for a fraction of the price on STEAM.
Some boxart was released with the announcement.

Actually kind of excited about this. I’ve recommended Portal way too many times but some folks say they won’t get it until it’s unboxed because they don’t want the rest. Their prayers have been answered.
Sorry Warren, but those people are dumbasses.
Portal alone is worth the $50. Tell them think of all those other games as freebies.
