At an investor’s conference held today, Take-Two Interactive, parent company to the 2K publishing and development branch, officially announced a follow-up to its critically-acclaimed deep-sea shooter, dubbed simply ‘BioShock 2′ at the moment.

The game is in development at the newly formed 2K Marin studio and is tentatively scheduled for release in the company’s fiscal fourth-quarter in 2009.

No details yet on story, setting, and so forth, nor is it apparent if 2K Boston Creative Director and pretty much our favorite person on earth Ken Levine will be working on this title as well.

Take-Two revealed that the original has sold over 2 million units worldwide on the Xbox 360 and PC since it’s release in August of last year.

Update Wednesday 3/12 4:00 PM EST

Take-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick has confirmed that Ken Levine “will be working on BioShock 2.” What that means exactly is anyone’s guess, but we’ll know for sure soon enough.
