Phil Harrison Joins Atari as President

Just a week after announcing his resignation from Sony Computer Entertainment, Phil Harrison has joined Atari parent-company Infogrames as president.
“This is the perfect time to join Infogrames and help shape the future of Atari - one of the industry’s legendary brands. As the game business moves rapidly online I believe we have an outstanding opportunity to create amazing network game and community experiences for players the world over,” said Harrison.
Harrison will join newly-appointed CEO David Gardner (formerly of EA) to “form the basis of a transformational leadership team at Infogrames that will grow the Atari brand into a leading online game company.”
The online component of Harrison’s new position will suit him quite well, as he was a big supporter of digital-distribution and the brainchild behind Sony’s upcoming social networking community, Playstation Home.
Atari and Infogrames have recently had trouble over the past several years, with hurdles that included the departure of key management, significant layoffs, studio sell-offs and financial losses.
“I am especially excited to be working on this challenge together with David, one of the most respected leaders and successful executives in our industry.”
We wish only the best of luck to Harrison and his future endeavors.

I don’t understand why Harrison would join the sinking ship that is Atari, but best of luck to him.
If there’s anyone who could turn it around, Phil is the man. Now, if Infogrames/Atrai could make some new, relevant IP things might actually look up.

Because Phil Harrison is the best at killing brands. If anyone can plunge the dagger in the weak beating heart of Atari, it’s Phil Harrison. I mean, just look at what he has done for Playstation.
