Mario Kart Wii for Europe in April

Europe, looks like Mario Kart Wii is coming sooner than you might have expected.
A press release sent out by Nintendo of Europe announces April 11th, 2008 as the release day of Mario Kart Wii all across Europe. For those unfamiliar with the series, the highly addictive games, with humble beginnings on the SNES, finds Mario and friends battling it out on race tracks, using a multitude of weapons to stop racers in their tracks as they try to win gold cup after gold cup.
Not wanting to deviate too much from the formula, Mario and friends will again be racing across race tracks, but there are some notable differences in this version. Packed in with the game will be the Wii Wheel, a plastic doo-hickey that you put the Wii-mote in to simulate a steering wheel. You can also turn the Wii-mote on its side, use a combination of Remote and Nunchuk, Classic Controller, or Gamecube Controller. Nintendo has you covered for whatever configuration you might enjoy.
Players will also be happy to find that Mario Kart Wii has worldwide Wi-Fi built in for up to 12 player racing action. 4 player local multiplayer mode is also included. All of this on 32 tracks, 16 classics and 16 all new. And players will also have the option of racing with bikes, a first for the series. Perform a wheelie and get a small speed boost, just like the power slide for the karts.
This game is so packed, in fact, that Laurent Fisher, Managing Director of Marketing and PR of Nintendo of Europe had to chime in:
“Mario Kart Wii is an eagerly anticipated launch for Europe and we are confident that all those who have enjoyed playing previous Mario Kart games, in particular the Nintendo DS version will be pleased and looking forward to its arrival. Mario Kart Wii encompasses the core spirit of Mario Kart: an incredibly rich and deep gameplay experience that provides never ending fun. And with the Wii Wheel, every member of the whole family will feel comfortable to join in and experience kart racing regardless of whether they are a karting champion or a complete new beginner. With the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service also allowing friends and family to compete around the globe, we are confident that Mario Kart fans won’t be left disappointed with this installment exclusively on Wii”.
No joke. That’s not even the half of it. Players will get the chance to play as their Miis, classic characters from previous games, and never-before-seen characters in the Mario Kart games. There are also 10 included battle arenas for players to duke it out on.
Oh, and in case you hadn’t noticed, Nintendo isn’t finished. A new Wii Channel will launch with the game, where players can monitor their ranking against others who’ve completed online races, as well as access and share Ghost Data of their private runs. Check your friends’ online status and set up chat rooms with them before the races even start. Through the channel, players can also spectate on friends’ races, jump into the next course, participate through special Nintendo organized events, and more.
Better work on your shell throwing arm. April 11th is just around the corner and at the price of only £39.99, Mario Kart Wii will be the must have game of the season.
