After a stunning debut in Japan, Super Smash Bros. Brawl broke the 1 million mark after just 11 short days as reported by GamesIndustry.biz. If that’s not enough, it continues its reign at the top of the Japanese sales charts, as reported by Media Create, for the week ending February 10th. It sold 252,000 copies, bringing the grand total to 1,071,000 copies sold thus far, firmly cementing its place as the fastest selling Wii title to date. And people said hardcore gaming was dead on the Wii.
The rest of the Top Ten was a mix of PlayStation family titles, Wii, and Nintendo DS. New entry Mobile Suit Gundam: Gihren’s Ambition the Axis’ Threat for the PSP debuted at a respectable second with 123,000 units sold, while Wii Fit moved up from last week to third with 65,000 units sold, bringing the grand total to 1,421,000.
Devil May Cry 4 dropped two slots to number four with only 32,000 copies sold, though the game has sold through 237,000 units thus far. Mario and Sonic at the Olympics came in fifth, moving up several spots from last week, while Wii Sports took the sixth place slot. The Japanese just can’t get enough of that game.
L, The Prologue to Death Note: Rasen’s Trap, another new entry, debuted at seventh, Family Ski for the Wii came in at eighth, Tales of Destiny: Director’s Cut for PS2 came in at ninth, and Mario Party DS, the game that just doesn’t quit, rounded out the list at number ten.
