Duke Nukem Forever May Arrive Late 2008

By Alex Petraglia on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 8:00 PM EST

The Dallas Business Journal ran an article earlier today (which we aren’t linking here for reasons that will soon become obvious) that stated definitively that 3DRealm’s Duke Nukem Forever would be arriving in late 2008. The author, one Stephen C. Webster, apparently received the tip after speaking to the company’s president, Scott Miller.

Said Miller: “We may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we’re on target this time.”

We were in contact with the studio over the course of the day, attempting to verify the validity of the claim.

Founder George Broussard issued a public statement early this evening:

I’d like to address the article the Dallas Business Journal put up today.

In what appears to be an unfortunate turn of events, there seems to have been some confusion between what was ‘off the record’ and what was not. I suppose we’re used to dealing with gaming press and not mainstream press. Lesson learned.

While we have internal targets, dates and goals, like every developer, we are not ready to share them. What’s amazing about this is that the DBJ must have assumed that we’d actually announce a date to them, and not gaming press, and that even in the light of Scott’s quote of “We can’t make an official announcement.”, the DBJ effectively did that. Lesson learned.

Honestly, who does the Dallas Business Journal think they are? Don’t they know that gaming journalists are the only ones who are suppose to take quotes out of context and fabricate stories? I mean, honestly. The audacity of some people.

So, what did we learn today? While 3DR may not have officially announced a release date, it seems evident that significant progress is being made on the game and that the team is optimistic about its future.

That’s more than enough to satisfy us.
