According to Activision and NPD data, Call of Duty 4 was the best selling game on earth in 2007, moving over seven million copies in just about seven weeks.

“We’re very excited about this achievement especially given so many competitive titles this year,” said Will Kassoy, Activision’s senior vice president of global brand management. “Consumer and critics agree that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the best games ever created and further establishes Call of Duty as one of the premier brands in the industry. This ground-breaking game and franchise continue to establish new standards by which all other action games will be judged.”

Of the 7 million copies, about 3.04 million sold were for the Xbox 360. According to the data, only 383,000 copies for the PC were purchased, but that does not take into consideration digital distribution sales via platforms like STEAM.

Activision will be releasing its full Q3 2008 fiscal results on February 7, 2008. We’ll have a better idea of the company’s full holiday sales records at that time.
