Wii Tie Ratio Over 8:1 in December

According to recently released December NPD data, consumers bought 8.11 games for every Nintendo Wii during the holiday month, beating out the Xbox 360’s attach rate of 7.76 and the PlayStation 3’s 5.04.

The overall lifetime tie ratio for the Wii is about 4.65:1, while the Xbox 360 boasts 7:1 and the PlayStation 3 is approximately 4.25:1.

These figures do not take into consideration Wii Sports, which comes packaged with each Wii console.

While no one can deny Nintendo’s sales success, there exists the potential that these Wii attach rates are wildly inflated. Due to the incredibly limited supply of the console, nearly every retailer from Gamestop to Walmart forces customers to buy bundles of three or more games with the Wii at time of purchase. It would be interesting to see data that compensates for this flaw. Nintendo recently warned retailers about their game bundling policies.

Top Wii sellers in December included Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Play, and Guitar Hero III.
