New Alone in the Dark Screens, Trailer

ATARI hath released a small collection of new Alone in the Dark screenshots and a trailer featuring compiled in-game footage.

The trailer exhibits some remarkable flame, lighting, and shadow effects, plus a healthy dose of environment interactivity. It also momentarily displays the game’s unique inventory and invention system.

What’s a bit perplexing is the dearth of actual encounters the protagonist experiences in the video. Watch carefully, as our hero valiantly swings a massive scimitar…at no one in particular. Marvel in wonder, as he accurately trains his pistol on…a pile of rubble.

Also, I’m more than a little put-off by the lack of noticeable reaction our intrepid protagonist demonstrates when he is faced with unsurmountable danger, such as fiery pendulums and marginally menacing (but mostly indiscernible) enemies.

If nothing else, the symphonic background score sets the mood quite nicely and I hope that this strong emphasis on gripping background music carries over through the final product.
