THQ today announced plans to acquire developer Big Huge Games, who are best know for their PC strategy games Rise of Nations and Rise of Legends. The deal will make BHG a wholly owned subsidiary of THQ, but they will still retain their management, employees and Maryland-based studio.

The developer is known to be hard at work with THQ on an unannounced RPG, which is being designed by Elder Scrolls creator Ken Rolston.

“THQ provides an ideal environment to help us develop new, innovative games for both core gamers and mass market,” said Big Huge Games president Tim Train. “We believe their passion for games, developer support, and understanding of the creative process is without parallel in the industry.”

The deal hasn’t been finalized yet, but THQ expects it to happen relatively soon.
