Pikmin Join Upcoming Smash Bros. Game

Nintendo’s official Smash Bros website, which is updated every weeknight, has revealed that Captain Olimar and his loyal Pikmin will be playable in the upcoming Wii game, Smash Bros. Brawl.

Pikmin is a real-time strategy game designed by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto for the Nintendo Gamecube. The game revolves around spaceman Captain Olimar, whose ship crash lands on a planet inhabited by strange plant-like creatures called Pikmin. With the help of the Pikmin, Olimar has to navigate the dangerous planet in order to find his missing ship parts and escape before his life support system stops working.

Little is known about his moveset so far, but the site hints at the “symbiotic relationship” between the Captain and his multi-colored plant pals. Could the strength of Olimar’s attacks be affected by the number of Pikmin currently following him? Will certain attacks require a certain number of Pikmin to perform? We can only speculate for now, at least until the game is officially released in Japan on January 24th.
