Self-congratulatory press releases ahoy! Thanks to the Xbox 360, Microsoft has, in its own words, emerged “hands-down as the industry leader.”

Worldwide, 17.7 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold to date. Since its release on September 26, Halo 3 has sold a mind-blowing 8.1 million copies (that’s almost 46% of all 360 owners), while Mass Effect has moved an impressive 1.6 million in the past six weeks.

The Xbox 360 also enjoys the highest attachment of any available console, with a rate of 6.9.

Meanwhile, Major Nelson recently revealed the most-played Live titles in 2007 to be Halo 3, Gears of War, and Call of Duty 4. The best selling Live Arcade games were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1989 Arcade, Worms, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
