Many purchasers of Rock Band were in for a nasty little surprise upon popping open the box when the game debuted last month. Numerous reports of defective guitars flooded the internets, prompting EA to set up well-coordinated RMA service. Within days, aspiring rock stars found their new axes sitting at their front doors.

But EA went even a step farther, promising a free game to those who were inconvenienced.

Said individuals can now select that game, from a surprisingly solid list of choices, including Command & Conquer 3, skate, FIFA 08, and (wait for it)…another copy of Rock Band!

All submissions must be in by January 11. And if you weren’t one of those individuals who got in touch with EA right around the time the game was released, you’re out of luck for this promotion.

EA couldn’t have everyone breaking their perfectly Rock Band fine guitars in order to get a free game, now could they?
