November Sales for Crysis, Uncharted, and UT3 Disappoint

While most publishers enjoyed impressively strong sales last month, three big releases did not fare nearly as well.

Crysis, currently a PC exclusive, sold a mere 86,600 copies since its November 13 release. Many believe the steep system requirements to be responsible for the lackluster sales. Crytek’s Cevat Yerli has stated that the prospects of a console port are dependent upon the PC sales, so it will be interesting to see how that unfolds.

Epic’s Unreal Tournament 3 for the PC moved 34,000 copies. Some suspect Midway’s poor marketing efforts were to blame for the lack of sales. The game was also released for the PlayStation 3 earlier this week; expect sales data for it in about a month from now.

Speaking of the PlayStation 3, its biggest winner in November was Call of Duty 4 with 444,000 copies sold (compare to 1.5 million for the Xbox 360 version, but I digress). Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, arguably the best PS3 exclusive to date, moved a meager 117,000 copies. In terms of opening month sales, this places it above both Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Warhawk (74,500 and 58,600 copies sold, respectively) but behind Heavenly Sword’s 139,000 units for its September release.

With a few more weeks left of Holiday shopping, it will be interesting to see if these sales pick up steam in time for NPD’s next release.
