Metal Gear Online To Be Included With Metal Gear Solid 4

By Alex Petraglia on Friday, December 14, 2007 at 12:00 PM EST

This month’s issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine (or the Magazine Formerly Known As PSM) includes official confirmation from Konami that Metal Gear Online, announced earlier this year, will be bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

This multiplayer offering supports up to 16 players in Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, and ‘Team Sneak’ game modes. Expect at least five maps when the game ships and a variety of customizable character traits. Not unlike Call of Duty 4’s multiplayer, the player will level up as he plays, allowing him to unlock new weapons and abilities.

While Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence offered optional, informal online gameplay, Metal Gear Online not only shares the tech and style of the upcoming MGS4, but will be the first fully developed online incarnation for the franchise.

Our own Ian White previewed Metal Gear Solid 4 at this year’s E for All expo.

Expect the game(s) in late 2008.
