Call of Duty 4 December Multiplayer Update Detailed

Call of Duty 4’s multiplayer is the reason I don’t get to bed until 3 AM lately, but it would seem Infinity Ward is even more hellbent on depriving me of sleep.

A representative from the development team posted a thread on the official Xbox 360 forums outlining some nifty changes that are in store for the game sometime next month.

Summarizing the most relevant updates, the map “Showdown” has been added to the rotation for Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, and Sabotage.

Meanwhile, Team Tactical, Domination and Headquarters are getting the maps “Ambush,” “Bloc,” and “Pipeline” added to their lists.

A new game type called “Mercenary Team Deathmatch” is joining the mix. In this game mode, members of the same clan are unable to play together and the formation of parties is disallowed.

Kill cams are being added to everything, including Air Strikes, which will follow the bomb as it drops from the jet to the ground below (we’re having visions of a certain iconic image from Dr. Strangelove), RPGs, grenades, and more.

From a technical standpoint, players will no longer be booted from the game should the host quit the match. Instead, they’ll all be loaded back into the lobby, where the next best host will be selected and the game will resume seamlessly.

The omnipresent “Playlist Older Than Host” bug has been squashed, as has the create-a-class data corruption error.

Improved network performance, optimized server selection, and updated spectator cams round out the fixes.

Most of the changes came directly from player requests, so let’s give a cheer for community feedback! OORAH!
