Austin’s Gamecock Media Group, a recently formed publisher of independent games, announced today its endorsement of American political icon Stephen Colbert for the Presidency of the United States.

After announcing last week his intention to run for President, but only in his home state, South Carolina Democrats blocked Colbert from appearing on the ballot. Gamecock CEO Mike Wilson urged Colbert to not let this minor setback hinder his presidential bid and implored the candidate to begin his campaign in Texas.

Said Wilson:

“After conducting extensive polling and scrutinizing all the candidates’ stances on various issues, we came to the conclusion that Stephen Colbert has shown strong leadership and best represents the interests of the videogame playing community. Stephen Colbert had Will Wright on his show and he pummeled Nancy Pelosi’s Mii in Wii Boxing. These decisive actions have earned our vote.”

Records indicate that this is the first time a game company has supported a candidate for President of the United States. Noting this, Wilson continued, “Politicians have long demonized videogames for short term gain. This has, of course, been hilarious to watch. But Stephen Colbert will definitely be funnier than anything Hillary Clinton or Mitt Romney can come up with.”

Gamecock also took the time to mention its upcoming politically-charged Hail to the Chimp, in development by Alexander Seropian’s team at Wideload Games.

Colbert was unable to be reached for statement at time of print.
