World in Conflict Gold
Sierra sends word that World in Conflict, the highly-anticipated real-time strategy title from its own Massive Entertainment, has gone gold and will be available in North American retail outlets starting September 18.

The game follows an alternate time line in which the Cold War didn’t end. World in Conflict eschews many traditional RTS elements, such as resource gathering and base building in favor of non-stop combat and tactical decisions, described as “FPS-like action.” It features an engaging singleplayer storyline and robust multiplayer component, we’re told, plus awe-inspiring visuals like complete destructible battlefields, thanks to DirectX 10 tech.

World in Conflict will be offered in Standard ($49.99) and Collector’s Editions ($59.99), with the latter including “an authentic piece of the Berlin Wall,” a bonus DVD from The History Channel, behind the scenes videos and special packaging. Look for our review in the coming weeks.

The Xbox 360 version of the game was not mentioned in the press release.
